Are you decisive?

How decisive are you?

I bet you haven’t asked yourself this question lately.

Or, maybe you haven’t really thought about it.

But, we are aiming for an easier life here, right?

Decisiveness is key to your success.

What does it matter?

Great question.  It matters.  It matters a lot.

It matters because most people nowadays are indecisive.  Become a more decisive person and you will rise to the top of the pack.

I see indecisiveness everywhere.  In day to day life, with my patients, and with my coaching clients.

Perhaps it plays out for you in simple ways such as deciding on what restaurant to eat at or what show to see.  These may seem like simple decisions, but they aren’t.

What happens if you are bad at it?

Indecision slows you down.  It bogs down everything you do.  For example, if you are putting off deciding on that next presentation topic, it takes up energy and psychic space in your head.  It may even knaw at you a bit.

People around your notice.  Don’t kid yourself.  We are all, to some degree, making mental notes of those we work with and how they work.

Plus, if you did a survey in an office, everybody knows who the leaders are.  Everybody knows those individuals who are decisive versus those who are wishy washy.

Wishy washy people do not command respect.

How do you become a decisive person?

Easy.  Practice.

Start with small decisions.  Like what restaurant to go to.

Give yourself 60 seconds to make a decision.  Wow, talk about pressure.

But, think of it this way.  By giving yourself only 60 seconds, you are effectively bypassing all the usual excuses, reasoning, stories, etc that bog you down in the first place.

So, when faced with your next decision, time yourself 60 seconds and then decide.  No going back.

Decisiveness is a key quality in leadership.  It will improve your productivity dramatically.

And, in the end, will lead to an easier life.
